As a union organizer for SEIU, Cynthia devised and implemented organizing strategies for health care workers in their effort to win National Labor Relations Board union elections. While organizing nurses in Miami, Florida, Cynthia identified and developed workplace leaders and mobilized rank-and-file workers. In an effort to expand community support for unionized nurses, Cynthia also conducted outreach with political, religious and community leaders around issues of concern to nurses such as improved nurse-to-patient ratios and workplace health and safety standards.
A graduate of Carleton College and the Law School at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, Cynthia's legal training is in immigration, housing and public benefits law. As the former manager for the Movement Building Project at Wellstone Action, Cynthia has worked with partner organizations ranging from Democracia U.S.A., Latina Leadership Academia and Amnesty International, U.S.A. Cynthia currently works for the Services Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 26, a Building Services union in Minneapolis, MN.
