Deborah Torraine is an outreach/cultural worker, educator and writer. Using experiential education and other means, her work has helped motivate behavioral changes in youth, parents with young children and other citizens. Working on the issues of environmental justice and higher education, Deborah, an African-American, has worked on two projects funded by Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources. She helped develop and taught environmental literacy programming, also associated with early childhood toxic exposure, to communities of color and other urban dwellers. One of her motes is 'healthier living for healthier lives.'
Prior to joining Wellstone Action! Deborah wrote two commissioned plays for children, taught art residences in the twin cities and Washington D.C. and has given motivational workshops about diversity and higher education for Wilder, schools and Saint Cloud State. She just completed an outreach project with Minnesota Department of Agriculture. Also, she received a "2007 Sustainable Saint Paul Awards: Greening Spaces" from the mayor of Saint Paul, Minnesota. She keeps a community garden whenever possible and is a member of Minnesota Hobby Beekeepers Association. She looks forward to working with EJAM.
