Hit the Streets
The best way to do this is through direct, personal, targeted contact with unregistered voters. There are countless creative ways to reach out to the community, but here are a few ideas:
- Knock on people's doors in your neighborhood. Going door-to-door can be scary at first, but if you want to register the most voters in targeted areas as possible, you will have to meet them where they are. Look for tips on door-knocking in an upcoming Organizing Corner!
- Send volunteers with clipboards to places where large groups of people (who are, on average, friendly to your issue or candidate) congregate-such as malls, movie theaters, campaign events, neighborhood festivals, farmer's markets, etc.
- Develop a phone bank-if you have lists of members, this is a good way to get in touch with them and let them know you'll be registering people to vote. You can use a phone bank to recruit volunteers, or to let your members know where you will be registering voters-at a festival, in the mall, or wherever.
- Print posters or flyers and hang them in your organization, on bus stop shelters, store windows, etc. This is a great way to publicize your drive and to raise awareness in the community.
